Credit unions provide better personal attention, higher quality service and lower fees than other financial institutions, according to a recent survey.

The poll, conducted by Gallup for American Banker, once again gave credit unions the highest ranking in customer satisfaction of any financial services organization.

Credit unions have topped the ratings every year the independent poll has been conducted – since 1989.

The reason:  “Credit unions are not-for-profit” cooperatives, which means member service is their reason for being, “says Daniel A. Mica, who is president and CEO of the Credit Union National Association.  “People are worth more than money at credit unions, their actions prove it, and this poll documents it.”

This year’s survey found that 76 percent of members who use credit unions as their primary financial institution said they were “very satisfied” with the service, up from 75 percent
last year.

            Fifty-three percent gave credit unions the best marks for low fees, compared with a 29 percent rating for bank customers and 28 percent for those who primarily use thrifts.
